Time
A sailor went to sea, sea, sea
To see what he could see, see, see
But all that he could see, see, see
Was the bottom of the deep blue sea, sea, sea
To see what he could see, see, see
But all that he could see, see, see
Was the bottom of the deep blue sea, sea, sea
This Scottish sea shanty, probably dating from the late nineteenth century, has adapted over time into a children's clapping game.
- The verse is sung through.
- Then the verse is sung again, this time replacing each instance of the word "Sea" with a handclap.
- The verse is sung through a third time, this time replacing each instance of the word "See" and the word "Sea" with a handclap.
- The verse is sung again, with all the words back in again.
